Earlier today, the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) office announced the names of the six appointees scheduled to serve as members of the National Mango Board for a three year term beginning January 1, 2017. Chris Ciruli, Ciruli Brothers’ Chief Operations Officer, was among those appointed by Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. This will be Mr. Ciruli’s second term as an appointee.
According to the official release, board members for research and promotion boards such as the National Mango Board are nominated by the industry and appointed by the Secretary to “empower farmers and ranchers to leverage their own resources to develop new markets, strengthen existing markets, and conduct important research and promotion activities.”
Mr. Ciruli, who is currently serving his second term as Treasurer, said “Mango availability in the U.S. is growing every year. With rising imports and consumer demand, there are countless opportunities to grow the category and educate consumers about mangos’ nutritional and health benefits. I’m honored to be able to work with the National Mango Board on these initiatives.”
Also appointed by Secretary Vilsack are Jiovani Guevara and Marsela Mcgrane-Vogel, both importers. The other members are foreign producers Norberto Galvan, Joaquin Balarezo and Eddy Rene Martinez Moran. Along with Chris Ciruli, their term begins January 1, 2017, and ends Dec. 31, 2019.
