This variety originated in Miami, Florida in the 1940s. Considered one of the best tasting mangos in the U.S., Kents are large and oval, with firm and juicy flesh that is brimming with flavor. If you’re familiar with mangos, the Kent’s flavor profile most closely resembles the Alphonso. Kents are predominantly green with a rosy blush that is even more pronounced when grown in regions where climate conditions provide ample sun. As the fruit matures, the skin develops small, golden dots and the fruit becomes soft to the touch. This is a very sweet and enjoyable mango with few fibers. We recommend enjoying it pureed as a marinade for chicken or pork, in a sweet mango lassi, or as a frozen treat.

Tommy Atkins
Known for its striking hues of red and green, Tommy Atkins is perhaps the most commercially available variety in U.S. store shelves. Tommy Atkins is a popular mango with retailers because it is extremely eye-pleasing and has a longer shelf life. Tommy mangos are round with flesh that is mildly flavored and firmer due to its naturally high fiber content. This is a good mango to use in frozen mango margaritas, smoothies, sushi, or even to dehydrate into mango chips.
